“A CALL TO PRAYER”
How often do you pray? How specific are you when you pray? How disciplined are you in keeping track of answered prayers? Like so many other aspects of life intentionality or lack of intentionality has a great impact on how we experience prayer.
What are we praying for? How often do we pray? How do we celebrate God’s answers to our prayers? These are important questions for people like us, Christ followers. Jesus was intentional in prayer, prayed often, and celebrated God’s answer to his prayers. We should too.
In preparation for this spring’s Global Impact Celebration; Outflow a group of us prayed each Thursday morning. We spent time praying for specifics and we found that God answered those prayers. Some of the prayers were answered in a ways that we never imagined while other prayers were answered more like we would have thought. The point is that our prayers were answered! For me the weekend was incredible for that one reason, our prayers were answered.
So what are we praying for now? What should a church pray for? What should our church pray for? When you are looking for something to pray for you can look in a couple of places. The first place I look is God’s heart. What is God’s heart for Epworth? Second is my heart. What fears, uncertainties, lack of faith, or barriers exist in my heart making it difficult for God’s heart to be mine? The answer to those two questions provided a wonderful platform for prayer.
Join me in getting specific and intentional about praying for Epworth this summer. Starting in July you are invited to get specific by attending prayer time in the historic sanctuary on Wednesday morning at 6:00am. and/or Sunday morning at 8:00am. If neither of those times work for you, try carving out a time for yourself once a week this summer or meet with other church members in your neighborhood to pray.
