Devotional Week 2, 2006
The Miracle of a Kind Word
Scripture: Thou hast lifted me up, and hast not made my foes to rejoice over me.
Psalm 30:1 KJV
Application: How often as you walk through the halls to class do you see a student walking there, who looks as though their world is falling a part? What do you do? Do you provide a kind word, or walk on by? How often do you see someone who seems to not have anyone they can talk too? Do you talk to them? Do you acknowledge them? Often times the best thing we can do for another person is to just say, "Hello" when we make eye contact the first time. That simple word has a power meaning. It means that you have acknowledge their existence. It may be the only positive word spoken to them that day. It may be the word that replaces their despair with hope. Make the effort to speak to someone you have not spoken to this week at school, and do so with sincerity and do so without expecting anything in return, but be willing to listen for a response. If a response is given, be thoughtful with your response. As we strive live by Christ's example, the best thing we can do is be an example of kindness and respect for others.
Quote: "Be kind; everyone you meet is fighting a hard battle." Ian Maclaren
Question: Can you make the effort to talk to someone you have not spoken too?
What was their response when you do?
Prayer: Dear God, Please give me an open heart and an open mind to be willing to reach out to those who I may have passed by. Give me the courage to be that example of Christ to those around me, so that they may see You in me. Amen
