Weekly Devotional - Christmas Week

Scripture:For unto us a child is born, unto us a son is given; and the government shall be upon his shoulder; and his name shall be called Wonderful Counselor, The mighty God, The everlasting Father, The Prince of Peace.”  Isaiah 9:6

Application:  I was listening to a talk radio show the other day and they were discussing the uproar over the Christmas season.  You know what I am talking about, all of the people who think that we should say Happy Holidays instead of Merry Christmas!  Well, I don't know where you stand on this issue, but I do know that all of you realize that the reason for this season is Jesus.  He was born for the purpose of bearing our sins and connecting us to God.  There was a caller who said that he was from another country and where he came from the people would not greet each other with "Merry Christmas" during this time of year.  Instead, they wanted to focus on the real reason for the season, Jesus.  So there greeting was the following: The first person would say "Christ is Born" and the second person would respond "Glorify Him!"  Their purpose for saying this greeting was to continually remind each other of the reason for the season.  So do me a favor, try out the greeting with your family.  You will have to teach them the response but I think it will be a great way to keep the focus.  Have a Merry Christmas because Christ is Born so let's all Glorify Him!

Quote:  "Jesus is Born" said one to another, the other replied "Glorify Him!"

Questions:  What does the Christmas season mean to you? What are the first thoughts that pop into your head when you hear the word Christmas?
