A True Friend -
Weekly Devotional- Week 7,
2006
Scripture: "There
are "friends" who pretend to be friends, but there is a friend who
sticks closer than a brother." - Proverbs 18:24 TLB
Application: Have we become a generation of microwave friends- friends who are here
one minute and gone the next, like a fast-food hamburger? We used to call this
type of friend an acquaintance- someone we meet occasionally in our daily
lives- someone to have lunch with, meet at the same party, or see a movie with
once in a while. It is enjoyable sharing time with these people, but we
know they are not the friends who would sacrifice themselves to help us in a
time of need. The one who we can count on to assist us and the one whom
we would sacrifice our needs to help in any circumstance is our true
friend. This is the person we have spent time with, cried with, and rejoiced
with. We were made by God to be in union with others. We find our
security in our friends and relationships. Take a look at those around
you, are they someone you could count in a time of need, and could they do the
same of you? Often the one who could be our best friend is one that we
often overlook. Are the "friends" you hang out with, true friends?
Quote: Real
friendship is shown in times of trouble;
prosperity is full of friends.-Euripides
Prayer: Pray for the friends in your
life, that God will help you discern who your true friends really are, and in
that give you the wisdom to be a true friend to them.
